The tech giant is doubling down on regional growth, bringing new AI tools and jobs to the Philippines and its neighbors.

Amazon is making a massive move in Southeast Asia, planning to invest over $33 billion by 2039. This huge investment focuses on building up cloud and Artificial Intelligence (AI) infrastructure. It is expected to add billions to the region’s economy and support more than 56,000 jobs every year. For tech professionals and businesses, this means more tools and better digital services are coming our way.

In the Philippines, we are already seeing this impact in action. Union Bank of the Philippines is using generative AI on Amazon Web Services (AWS) to get business insights up to five times faster than before. On the creative side, Prime Video is launching seven new local Philippine Originals. This shows that Amazon is not just investing in servers, but also in local talent and storytelling.

A big part of this plan is making sure people have the right skills. Since 2017, Amazon has trained over 2.7 million people in Southeast Asia on cloud technology. They are working with governments and schools to teach high-demand skills like data engineering and AI. This upskilling is designed to help local workers find better jobs in the growing digital economy.

Amazon is also looking at ways to connect people in remote areas. Through satellite technology, they aim to bring high-speed internet to places where traditional cables cannot reach. This is especially important for an archipelago like the Philippines, where mountains and islands often make staying connected a challenge for millions of people.

Finally, the company is focusing on being environmentally friendly. Amazon wants to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. They are already using recycled water to cool their data centers and are investing in renewable energy projects. By combining high-tech growth with sustainability, they hope to build a digital future that lasts for everyone in the region.
