“Securing businesses in a rapidly evolving digital landscape, Mimecast brings advanced AI-driven protection closer to the region.”
Mimecast, a global leader in cybersecurity, is making big moves in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region with new investments in Singapore. These plans include setting up a new regional headquarters for ASEAN countries and launching a new data center. The main goal is to offer advanced protection against online threats, ensure data stays within local borders (data sovereignty), and boost AI innovation for businesses across the region. As part of this expansion, Nicky Choo has been appointed to lead Mimecast’s operations and growth in APAC.
The Asia-Pacific region is a hotbed for technology, accounting for a quarter of the global cybersecurity market. With businesses rapidly adopting digital tools and cloud services, there’s a huge demand for artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. However, this fast growth also means cyber threats are becoming more advanced and complex, making strong cybersecurity more critical than ever.
Leading Mimecast’s charge in APAC is Nicky Choo, who brings extensive experience in cybersecurity and enterprise technology. Based in Singapore, he will be responsible for Mimecast’s regional strategy, operations, and growth. Choo’s background includes helping major brands secure their systems against cyber threats, making him well-suited to advance Mimecast’s mission of protecting businesses in this dynamic region.
Today’s digital world faces a new challenge: AI-driven attacks. Mimecast’s research highlights a growing concern called ‘Shadow AI,’ where employees using generative AI tools might accidentally leak sensitive company information. To tackle this, Mimecast has developed advanced AI-powered solutions, like Mimecast Insider Risk Management, which helps organizations prevent critical data from being exposed, lost, or stolen, providing real-time alerts when potential risks are detected.
The upcoming fully managed data center in Singapore is another key development. Built on Amazon Web Services’ secure cloud, it will help local customers meet strict data privacy rules, such as Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act. This ensures that sensitive information remains within national borders and under local control, building trust and confidence for organizations in their data infrastructure. Mimecast’s AI Lab in India, with its team of 150 engineers, also plays a crucial role in developing the innovative, AI-driven platform that protects customers worldwide from these sophisticated attacks.
