“A new era of digital safety for Filipinos through stronger platform actions.”

Following recent discussions in the Philippine Senate and a clear directive from the President, Meta (the company behind Facebook) is making significant commitments to enhance online safety for Filipinos. Key representatives from Meta, including Berni Moestafa and Gio Tingson, recently met with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to outline these crucial steps.

A primary focus is combating Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC). Meta has pledged to use stronger platform enforcement to detect, report, and promptly remove content that exploits children, a vital move to protect vulnerable users.

Meta also agreed to deepen coordination to curb financial scams. This includes fighting fraudulent investment schemes, phishing attempts, and other digital deceptions that aim to defraud users of their money.

Furthermore, Meta is reinforcing action against deepfakes. These manipulated contents, often used to mislead the public or harm reputations of individuals from politicians to ordinary citizens, will be a target for stronger removal efforts.

These commitments highlight the power of collaboration between government and private tech sectors like Meta. It underscores a shared responsibility to build a secure, trustworthy, and safe digital ecosystem for all Filipinos.
